Below you will find some of most frequently asked questions. We will constantly update this page as new question arise. If you cannot find an answer to a question here, please feel free to contact either of our nurseries.

Upon starting with us, your child will be given a nursery bag. We recommend that you fill it with a couple of sets of clothes (don’t forget socks) bibs if applicable, and hat and gloves in the colder months, along with a warm coat. Many parents also leave a pair of wellies at nursery too.

Unless it is an excludable illness, your child can return to nursery if they are feeling well. Medicines, such as antibiotics will be administered by a senior member of staff but where possible, doses should be administered at home (before and after nursery). Such medicines will be stored in the office medicine fridge and signed in and out.

In line with national ratios, children are cared for in the following way:

Under 2’s – a ratio of 1 adult to 3 children.
2-3’s – a ratio of 1 adult to 4 children.
Over 3’s – a ratio of 1 adult to 8 children.
However, we are often over staffed and staff would not be expected to work alone.

All groups have two time slots a day (am and pm) to go outside. We have 6 different age groups in the nursery so in order to safely manage all groups, this is how we share it out.

We cater for all needs ranging from various intolerances, severe allergies and cultural preferences.

Sometimes things crop up that are unavoidable and a family friend might have collect your child. If someone who isn’t on you ‘collection consent list’ needs to collect we can easily set up a password between all parties.

All rooms have key staff in them, one of which will be assigned as your child’s keyworker. That team of staff are responsible for the care of your child on a daily basis. Occasionally, extra staff may be used if rooms are busy but these are often our part time cover staff or staff from other rooms who are still a familiar face to the children.

The keyworker will be the one to carry out the monthly observations, meetings at parents evenings, transition reports and links to the EYFS via the Famly app, but all key staff in the room will care for the child and carry out nappy changes, feeding and general caregiving. That being said, if you want to discuss any personal matters directly with the keyworker, you are more than welcome.
Your child will take part in a range of activities and play experiences that cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Free play experiences differ by ages but range from building and construction, creative and messy play, sensory exploration, role play with ‘homelife’ resources or imaginary small world models. Minor and gross motor skills are strengthened both indoor and out and likewise, outings into the wider world are enjoyed.
We endeavour to include all children in every element of nursery life wherever possible. If there are physical difficulties we will try our best to overcome them and in all cases we work closely with outside professionals for a collaborative approach. If there is any additional medical training required, we are more than happy to access this.
